Porto Colom

The resort of Porto Colom, one of many places that claim to be the birth place of Christopher Columbus, is located 12 miles south of Porto Cristo and 40 miles south east of Palma. Originally it was a fishing village set in a rocky coastline with lots of small coves and there are still fishing boats in the harbour and at the northern end of the quay, the colourful fishermen's cottages provide a picturesque scene.

The main beach, Cala Marcal, is 500 metres from Porto Colom and is backed by apartment blocks and hotels, with the hills of the Serres de Llevant further behind in the distance.

The resort has many seafront restaurants and tapas bars on the harbour road, as well as beach restaurants and some ex-pat establishments near the beach. Most restaurants serve local cuisine, although some cater for German and British tastes and there is a Chinese and Thai restaurant.
