Palma de Mallorca

The capital of Majorca is located in the Bay of Palma and visitors should be aware that although there is a waterfront promenade Palma does not have a beach. The nearest beach resorts are around 4 miles from Palma, with Ca'n Pastilla to the east or Cala Mayor to the west.

Palma de Mallorca is a busy city with more than half of the islands inhabitants living here. Palma is home to a rich history and many monuments worth paying a visit, probably the most magnificent being the cathedral which was constructed starting in the 14th Century.

The nighlife is vibrant but not as brash as the resorts, with numerous bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from. During the day you can explore Palma's old quarter, with its cobbled lanes, Gothic churches, tree lined boulevards and designer boutiques. The Gothic cathedral, Bellvar castle, Banyas Arabas (Arab baths), Palau de l'Almudaina (Moslem castle) and La Llotja are attractions worth a visit. The Museu de Mallorca is a converted 15th century palace containing archaeological finds.
